- About the year 1881 Mrs. Moroney who was the land lady in Spanish Point, Miltown Malbay evicted three of four tenants. There amongst them Clancys and Moroneys. Soon afterwards she sent her horses to be shod in Miltownmalbay. Three blacksmiths McGuire, Heaney and Moloney (whose forges still stand) refused to do her work and were sent to prison. During their imprisonment their families were supported by the whole countryside. A certain day was appointed and all the country people contributed turf and potatoes. One blacksmith in the town, Martin Reidy, shod her horses only to lose mostly all his customers. Even at present his work is very little in comparison to what all the others do.i
Three brave blacksmiths down in Co. Clare

They'd rather go unshod themselves than shame the Co. Clare.ii

They wouldn't make apologies, they wouldn't offer bail
And so they got their punishment a week for every nail.(continues on next page)- Informant
