  1. There was a great belief in the old days in fairies. These stories were handed down from generation to generation as was the custom in those days. When a crowd of old and young were gathered around the fire side the old stories were related night after night in the long winter nights which was an innocent way of passing away the time.
    I had heard one story which I will related to the best of my memory. There was an old woman who lived in a certain village when roads were scarce in Ireland. It so happened that this woman had to go a certain to a house in the County on some buisness or other. When returning home she had to proceed by a path, leading to a public road. When about to cross a stile, in the path she saw three little boys dressed in green. When she attempted to cross the stile they barred her way and blessed herself. When she approached the stile again the same thing occured
