- These are the names of our fields.The "orchard," we call it the orchard because apples grew in it long ago.The "burrow field," we call it that because there are rabbits in it always.
The "Clash field", we call it that because there is a Clash or hollow in it. It is stony in the bottom and has big trees growing on the edge of the Clash. In the next field there is a similar Clash and from one to the other there is a raised surface. It is said there is an underground passage from one Clash to the other.
The "far off field" we call it that because it is the farthest off field in the farm.The "fort field", we call it that because there is a fort in it.
"Tom's field" we call it that because a man by the name of Thomas English lived there long ago and my grandfather bought it from him, after he went to America.We have another field near our own gate and we call it the "road field", because it is near the road.
The "hill field", because there is a hill in it.
