  1. According to the story there lived a woman in olden times and she had four children and their father was dead. The four children used to be always hungry and she did not know what to do for them. One day she told the children that she was going to put down something for them to eat Then she began to clean a pit and wash it and she stopped ever so long washing it to kill time. Then she went and got a bucket of stones and she gave twice as long washing them to kill time. The children used to say to her mother, Put them down," they thought if they were boiled they could eat them. So she hung the pot over the fire and the children fell asleep. Then after a time the pot began to boil and she was quite satisfied that they were asleep And she said God would do good for them until they would wake. Then at the same time a man came in to the house and sat at the fire to light his pipe. He began to talk about the weather and remained there a long time. Then he told the woman that the pot was boiling since he came in and she
