    Her golden hair I've intertwined
    With C. J. Kickham's light brown hair
    Now both are in my heart enshrined
    The silver brown, the golden fair.
    One has been clipped from Erin's daughter
    The other from her martyred son
    Vainly I wooed and vainly sought her
    Would he have lived, would I have won.
    But - there lurks one hope -
    To see Ireland's harp without a crown
    And that the three shall form a wreath
    The harp, the golden fair and silver brown.
