    whiskey was made it was put into kegs and conveyed by horse and car to Limerick and other towns.
    It is not rightly known why the distillery ceased to work but it is generally believed that the owner ran into debt and failed to carry on the work.
    The ruins of the distillery are still in fairly good condition and in it are still to be seen several old wheels and grindstones.

  2. Hedge Schools. November 29th 1937
    Hedge schools are said to have existed in this parish in the penal days because in those days parents were very anxious to have their children educated to keep the old traditional name "The island of Saints and Scholars" alive.
    Mud houses were built by the hedges and in these hovels the "poor scholars", taught to the pupils what little knowledge they had. Reading, writing and arithmetic were the principal subjects
