  1. The 7th of January 1909, a severe snowstorm took place in the County of Limerick. A man named Mr. Slattery was knocked off his horse in the heavy snow fall, which was four feet in depth.
    It remained snowing for a whole week without ceasing. Three sheep belonging to a Mr. O'Connor got smothered in it and cattle were seen cowering in the fields, looking for food, but could not find anything as all the ground was covered completely in this tremendous snowstorm. People were unable to go outdoors for a whole week.
    That very same week an iceberg broke away from the north pole, and wrecked many ships at sea.
