  1. Once upon a time there lived in the parish of Ardagh a farmer who generally made butter. One morning a big black cat appeared on the strainer. When the farmer went to make the butter he could not do so. The next morning the cat was there again and for three mornings in succession. Then the farmer sent for the priest.
    He told him to get seven horse-shoes and to redden them and to burn the cats neck and to go around the farm afterwards and see if he could see the cat.
