- A man named Pádraig Pearse Condon lived in Shanakiel Ballymacoda. He was a great friend of my Granduncle, and he lived near him. In the year 1826 he emigrated to America, and he wrote several letters home telling about the lives of the people and about the climate and the wild animals that were to be found there. His most famous poem was one written as a poetical letter to my Grand-Uncle.
