    as porridge. Potatoes were eaten at nearly every meal. The potatoes were very often eaten just with salt or sometimes with "dip" which was milk and a little salt mixed. Sometimes they had potatoes and sour milk for dinner they again had potatoes and milk and a little fish or salt meat for dinner. In many houses the potatoes were thrown into a basket made of twigs and placed in the middle of the floor The people all gathered round and took some potatoes. Sometimes it is said that a piece of fish or meat was hung down in the middle of the potatoes and was not to be eaten.
