  1. Jackie the Lanthorn was a shoe-maker who lived all alone in a little house His chief possessions were a little bag of tools a little stool and an apple tree which grew in front of his door.
Boys often tormented Jackie by coming in and stealing the apples and the tools, and sitting on the stool, so one day an angel appeared to Jackie and gave him three wishes Jackie wished first that whoever would touch the bag would fall into it, and secondly whoever would touch the tree would stick to it and thirdly whoever sat on the stool would stick to it. One day the Devil came to him. Well said Jackie you could do everything but you could not go into that bag then the devil went in and could not get out. Jackie took the bag containing the devil to a forge and a smith beat the bag with a sledge until it began to swell then he said to Jackie "It must be the devil is in the bag"
