  1. Situated mid - way between Upper and Lower Dripsey in the field near Mrs Morrissy's is the ruin of an old school known in former times as Blackpool.
    It is said that a teacher by the name of Mr O'Reilly known by the nickname of German taught there.
    Those children whom he taught used to write with pencils which they used to get from the quarry of Mr Greer's.
    This teacher used to visit houses when school hours were over. He went to teach one family who were cousins to the notorious Dr Phil Cross of Shandy Hall Dripsey, who was hanged for the murder of his wife on the 10th January 88.
