   To the dear little hamlet so plain to be seen.
   You can hear the train whistling going down for Gurteen.

   When you come up to Berrings your attention is drawn.
   To beautiful surroundings I'm now going to call.
   A picturesque chapel so saintly and tall.
   A School and a pub and a gorgeous town-hall.

   Now travel with me and once more you will find.
   The dearest of all that I'm leaving behind.
   In sweet desolation in sunshine and rain.
   I would long to be back in Kilmurry again.

   I spent my young days with a heart free from care.
   And plucked the wild fruits from the vines in the wild wood,
   And smelt the wild roses perfuming the air.
