    A carrier from Roscarbery was returning from Cork with a heavy load. The reached Bandon about midnight and travelled the old road to Ballinascarthy. Coming around a bend of the road he saw a fine house and from it came the sound of laughter and music. Just then a man came along and invited him to come inside. Being tired and in need of food he was grateful for the invitation. Stepping inside he found a merry party dancing, singing and drinking. Tables were covered with the finest of food and he longed for something to eat. Somebody beside him whispered "ná ith agus ná ól. Several of the party offered him drink but he remembered the warning and thanked them saying that he was neither hungry nor thirsty. After some time somebody called "díol an píobaire"
