    One evening of late as from Bando I strayed
    Towards Cloonakilty the best haste I made
    And at Ballinscarty some time I elayed
    Where I wetted my whistle with porter

    I (spat) kindled my pipe and spat on my stick
    And went the coach road like a reindeer I tripped
    Sure I cared not for Bailiff Landlord or ould nick
    But I sang like a lark in the morning

    I scarcely had travelled a mile of the road
