  1. This was a story old James Gibbons of Clashaganny, Tulsk, Roscommon who died in 1922. used to tell.
    There is no animal cleverer than the weasel not even the fox himself. He will always pay you back whether for good or for bad. Many a time I heard my father say this and he had an experience of it.
    Long ago the old people used to get up at cock crow if they were going to a fair or to a market and set off at the dawn Well it happened one time that my father had to go to Roscommon Sure enough he set out at dawn walking and with a nice ash plant in his hand. Coming near The White Gates a lonely part of the road he saw in front of him what he thought was a big furry ball rolling from one side of the road to the other and it screeching like blue murder. The 'could' sweat started to come out on his forehead and his knees to give under him but being a brave man he pulled himself together spat on his hands gripped his plant tight and went on.
