  2. About Shadlough lake in the olden days there was a saying that the mentioned lake was enchanted. People that lived in that locality, when they used to sow their crops in the Spring such as oats and wheat, when it used to grow to the height of a foot or so, they noticed that there used to be trespass on it from that on until it was fit to reap. They used to watch to see what was trespassing on it. Coming on to the harvest time they found that there were a mare and a foal eating their crops. They tried on several occasions to catch the mare and foal but when she would run off for the water and leap in to it. One day a crowd of young men gathered to gether and some of them went to their crops to frighten them from it. On they came with
