  1. The famous Brindsely Sherdian in his reference to the waters of Ballyspellan Spa said it had not its equals except in far fame Lewellen.
    Consequently he composed those words

    All ye who wish to refine your dwelling
    As clear as fame Lewellen.
    Water clear comes every year
    To drink at Ballyspellan.
    Another writer whose name I cannot recall at the moment when writing of Johnstown referred to Ballyspellan in following words.

    Deserted town how poor how mean
    Though once the same of chivalry and mirth
    When Ballyspellan high of fame.
    Called rich and poor blind and lame
    From all parts of the earth.
    Ballyspellan is the largest townsland in the parish of Johnstown comprising roughly about 8 thousand acres.
