    He is twelve stone and two, His age is sixteen,
    He’s a bonny light horseman, And he rode in green.
    About the 4th of October to Armagh he did steer,
    With his bonny "Kate Kearney", Without dread or fear.
    Says Thompson to Philgate, Have you got no news,
    Says Philgate to Thompson, I fear we will lose.
    Here comes Arthur Bond on his bonny crop mare,
    He will take the cup from us I vow and declare.
    When the bugle was sounded and the riders got on,
    They tightened their girths, To prevent them from falling.
    The first leap they came to, two of them did fall,
    And the next leap they came to, it puzzled them all.
