- Tom Phillips who lived in Ardminane, Killavil was noted for his great strength. He was able to carry a 40st bag of wheat. This was comprised of 2 eighteen stone bags of wheat and a four stone weight. This was done for a wager in England. The English were amazed and the Irishmen cheered their hero.

- Pat Doyle, Harristown about 60 years ago lifted 4 h.cwts in each hand took an anvil in his mouth and a cwt. of meal on his back. this action was done in Fluiena (?) Mill near Bunninadden. This man was noted for his great strength. He died about 35 years ago. He was about 70 years when he died.
