  1. We have a churn at home. It is about two and a half feet high and about two feet wide at the top and two feet six inches at the bottom. The sides of the churn are round. The church is sixteen years old. The top of the church is called the peck and another mark [?] same on the lid to show how to put it on straight. The butter is made about twice a week in the summer time and about once a week in the winter. My father and mother do the churning. If anyone happens to comes in during the Churning he or she would help out with it because it is customary to do so. The churning takes from half and hour to an hour. It depends on the quantity of cream to be churned. The churning is done by hand in my home. The churning dash moves up and down. Cold water is mostly used for washing down the milk and butter in the churn. The butter is lifted with a strainer and put in the small pails used for salting butter.
