  1. It is supposed that on certain set nights a headless rider on a white steed started at a gate called the black gate within a mile of Ballyvary and came full speed to the crossroads at the fort. There he disappeared. About ten years ago, a man going to a fair was passed by the steed which was pure white. The man's [?] was shining black but he did not notice if he was headless. The man going to the fair spoke to the rider but got no reply.
