    Garman, the occupation of the town by the Danes, the coming of the Anglo-Normans, Cromwell's siege and Massacre, and the "Plantation" of the city * or Washford signifies a bay overflowed by the tide, but left nearly dry at low water.
    The principal places of interest are : St. Selskar, or St. Sepulchre's Abbey. The present Church of St. Selskar on the site of the Abbey choir, while the tower, now does duty for a vestry room.
    The walls of this abbey were raised by the Danes on their embracing Christianity in the eleventh century on the site of Woden's Temple. Here the first Treaty
