- There were many local customs there long ago which are not in use now. On Christmas night we light candles in every window in honour of our Lord, who was born in a stable of Bethlehem. On St. Stephen's night the boys go round with the wren on a furze bush. This old rhyme is said: "The wren the wren the king of all birds, St. Stephen's day he was caught by the furze.
