- In olden times there were hardly any shoes sold in the shops so the people had to do without shoes until they were about fourteen or fifteen years of age and some people did without them until they were getting married. I have not heard of any people who never wore shoes but some poor little boys and girls had to go in their feet because their parents could not afford to buy shoes because they had no money.
