    of blessing the candles which are to be used on the Altar for Mass and Benediction and also for the Catholics who are dying.
    People (every woman) come and give an offering of money towards the buying of candles and oil for the Sanctuary lamp and each receives a candle when blessed after blessed. There is no house unrepresented in the church that day. They bring home candles which they use in case of a person dying or great temporal trouble.

    The day lenthens to a cocks foot on the 6th January.
    And on Candlemas Day throw candles and candlesticks away
    And eat your supper with the light of the day.
