  1. There is a holy well in Mitchelstown, called St. Fanahan's well. St Fanahan is the patron saint of the parish of Mitchelstown and his feast-day is November 25. It is kept as a local holiday, and thousands of people attend and "give" rounds at the well. Many cures have taken place and crutches and other things can be seen there - left by persons who were cured. The land on which the well is, was once owned by a Protestant clergyman. He used to prevent the people from going through his land to the well. The well, it is said, was removed to where it is now situated.
The old clergyman would not believe that people could get their sight restored there. He had an old, blind horse and he made his servant bring it to the well to see if he would get its sight restored. The clergyman himself became blind.
