- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)Athboy churchyard contains very old tombstones and crosses. The oldest tombstone was made in the year 1118. There is also a very old cross in Rathmore churchyard of the late James Connell who died in the year 1619. The oldest crosses in the churchyard are flat stones. There is one of the tombstnes in Athboy churchyard made of metal. There is also a little iron cross in it.
People were buried under the Protestant church in Athboy mostly priests. There are three priests buried under Athboy Catholic Church but their names are not known. There are marks on the ground where they were buried beside the altar rails.
There is one story connected with the local graveyards. Long ago when a corps would be buried there would be men watching in a hut in the graveyard for fear that the kidnappers would take it.
Barrets, Martinstown, Athboy are buried in Girley, Kells, Gilroys, Gillstown, Athboy are buried in the Hill O' Ward, Athboy. Donohoes, Martinstown are buried in the Hill O' Ward, Martins,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
