  1. Long ago people never wore boots until they earned enough money to buy them themselves. They never wore shoes round their houses until they were going to Mass.
    Even then they brought the shoes under their arms until they reached the Church.
    It is a very usual thing to see (peopl) children going barefoot through the Summer at the present time.
    Water in which the feet were washed was never kept in the house overnight. It was considered very unlucky to do so.
