- We have a farm and we keep seven cows, six calves, one horse, a horse foal, an ass foal, three pigs, two cats, seventy hens, sixty chickens, and six turkeys.
The cows have got names - white stockigs, Stokes, Old Gray Cow, The Heifer, Crooked Horn, Eileen's Cow, and Sucky. We call the horse "Paddy" and the foal "Teddy". When we are driving the cows home in the evening we say "hie Home". When we are calling the calves we say "Suck! Suck!".
Where the cows sleep at night is called a byre. It is a big stone house with two doors and an iron roof. There is a big sleeper with a chain attached to it and the cows are tied to it.
There is always a piece of blessed palm hung in the byre.
When calling the hens we say "tuk, tuk," and the turkeys "Bee, Bee".
