- The road going by our school was called "The New line". To the west of us is another very old road, and it goes by the name "The Old Road". Joining our "New Line" is another old road called "The Bog Road". It is a very narrow road without ditches, and is very dangerous. There is no record of when it was made.
These roads are all made vertically, absolutely up and down. They are still used by farmer's bringing turf home from the bog, and the ass is mostly used in climbing these heights. These roads I believe were made as "Relief Works" during the famine period. The old men about have told me that in those princely days the workers got the lordly sum of 2d a day and worked from dawn to dark, and doing on dry oaten bread and milk.
Passing right by the school is a "mass path" going right over to Clifferna chapel which the present day people use still, taking gaps and ditches as they meet them.- Bailitheoir
