- There are three or four forges in my district at present, but in olden times there was only one. The smith's names are Foster, Gaynor, Dillon and Daly. Their people have not been smiths for many years. All the forges are situated in the village of Ballinagh. The forges are all small and slated. The doors are of no special shape. One fireplace is all that is within any of them.
The implements used by the smiths are anvils, pinchers, and many others. The shoe horses and donkeys, and make and repair ploughs, harrows, shovels, spades, and all other farm implements, no part of the work is done in the open air except wheel sh[?] repairing in Summer.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
