- (1) Long ago the people used to have heather twigs which they call "besoms". The old "besom man", used to gather the heather and make it into nice besoms and then bring them to the market to sell them to the people. Long ago the old "besom man," was a familiar figure in the market towns.(2) Another old craft was basket-making. The people used to make baskets of wicker-work and on market days they used to sell them. (3) Another old craft was churning. Long ago the people used to churn all their own butter, and bring it to the market to sell it.
