  1. Several farmers had a lot of cows. They were getting no profit from the churning. A priest went on a sick call one night and had to cross a stream. At the stream he saw an old woman churning the water with a stick. The water all came to foam.
He heard her saying "MacCarthys, Byrnes and Doyles profit all come to me." The priest did not know what she really meant and said "And half of it come to me." When the priest went home he found the whole house full of butter. So he had to go back to the stream to call out the names so as to give them back their profit. All the farmers went to a witch who advised how to get back their profit. She told them to put plough irons in the fire and in this way the magic was worked and the profit brought back. They never had any reason to complain after that.
