- Old Houses
Old houses of long ago were called by the old people mud cabins. They were all thatched because long ago slates were not common. Most of them were thatched with rushes from the bogs. The thatch was procured from the bogs. Some of them were thatched with wheaten straw because long ago wheat was grown plentifully in Ireland.In most of the farmers house there was a bed called "A Settle Bed". It was usually placed in the corner or near the fire in the kitchen. It was called a settle bed because in the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
