21 Why does a hen pick a pot?
Because she can't lick it. - The chief fairs for this locality are held in Cloughjordan; Roscrea; Nenagh; Templemore and Birr. Fairs once held in Dunkerrin, Moneygall and Toomevara have now been discontinued for a good number of years. In 1914, owing to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in surrounding districts the Moneygall fair was temporarily revived. At one time Toomevara was noted for its bullock fair; but was abolished about a century ago owing to the workings of certain factions calling themselves "Black Feet;" "White Feet;" "Magpies;" and "Gurtalocks;" who invariably entered the fairs and caused disputes and fighting. Many years ago the fairs were not always held in the town as they mostly are now.
