    There was a race in Cooldairough Parish of Ballinahound, Co. Offaly about { ??} years ago.
    It was won by James Brazil. The competitors had to run in bags with their arms out. No one was able to run after rabbits and catch them but when the animals used to be coming near them, they would lie down and let them run into their hands and would catch them.
    Weight throwers:
    There were strong people also comparing to see which of them would throw a hundredweight of pollard the farthest. A man named Pat Cantwell, Leabeg, Parish of Ballinahown, Co. Offaly threw it twenty-seven yards.
    Mowers: Long ago the people used to mow their hay and corn with scythes. A man named Joe Daly, Dernagun, Parish of Ballinahown, mowed an acre and a half in a day.
    Dancers: There were a lot of people in olden times learning dancing
