Old Crafts
Spinning was carried on in the local houses. Mrs Cobbe (Closast) sowed flax. from which Mrs Cobbe made some very beautiful linen articles.
Rushes dipped in grease were substitutes for candles.
Bog deal when lit served as a very suitable candle for the country houses.
Basket-making is still carried on in the district. The farmers still make farm-baskets.
Thatch - Cottages are re-thatched by the owners, or by some neighbour skilled in the craft.
Barrel and corn making is carried on in the district at present. Mr Watson excels at this craft, and also at wheel making.
Lime is burnt in Finley's kiln. People whitewash their kitchens with this good lime.- Faisnéiseoir
