    Local marriage customs
On the day of a wedding in Monageer all the beggars and tinkers from the surrounding districts and from Enniscorthy come to the church and beg from the bridegroom and the marriage party.
Some of these beggars follow the wedding party to the house of the bride where they get food as well as coppers.
The other beggars generally make a tour of Monageer district begging at each house, before they leave.
No one around here remembers marriages taking place in the houses.
There is a custom here of blowing horns and bottles on the night of the wedding.
This is not done by any of the wedding party but by outsiders.
Parties of "black men" that is men disguised go to the house of the bride where the wedding feast
