- 232The Old GraveyardsI only know of one graveyard in my parish.
It is situated in the townland of Tykillen and is attached to the Tykillen Estate.
There is a part of it reserved for the "Walker" family to be buried in.
This is kept very up-to-date and the tombstones all are very newly made.
Then there is another graveyard which was in use five years ago.
There are tombstones in it but the writing on them is all blotted out.
There are cromlecks in this graveyard but the name cuts are all covered with ivy and moss.
The small crosses are made of wood and are not made in any particular shapes.
There are twenty-three white stone tombstones and two marble and a small granite one.
Those are made in several different shapes.
The family graves are railed in with wire railing around them.
The graves can scarcely be seen with weeds and grass.
The people whose friends are interred here are dead, and others have emigrated to foreign countries and all are separeted.Breeda O Leary
