At this fair the animals were sold very cheap, a calf would be got for as low as 3s-6d. The "toll" paid for a single animal crossing the bridge was 6d.If the buyer was unfortunate enough to let the animal cross over the bridge with the owner he would lose all claim to it and if he wanted it back he would have to rebuy it and pay "toll" a second time.
At this time in Ferrybank there were coal and corn stores owned by a man named Patrick Furlong and at this very day can be seen in General Doran's barn the signpost with his name and date on it.
At this period animals were not a big price anywhere, they were not a very money-making industry but corn was very dear at this period and as a result tillage was thought alot about and a lot of and was under cultivation.
