    Various kinds of relics are left behind at it to commemorate the visit of some poor invalid. Often we see crutches, glasses, beads, medals and such things around those holy places.
    It is not right to touch or damage any holy well. An old story is told about a woman who in a hurry to boil water for the breakfast went to Saint Lawrence well as it was the nearest to her, took some water from it, brought it home and put it to boil in the kettle, but no matter how tried she could not get it to boil.
