A large oak tree, over hundred years old, stands in the centre of the village, there is a cement wall surrounding it about three ffeet high and also two feet wide. It is know as the "Big Tree" and it is a familiar landmark for many miles around.
Strange as it may seem, the name "Foulksmills" does not appear "Voters list of Place names" those living on one side of the road being the townland of Poldoon while the other side is in the townland of Garryrichard.
    Poldoon -
The name is usually given to a large tract of 105 acres formerly all the one field on the Leigh estate but divided up by the Land-Commission in 1927 among four farmers in the neighbourhood. It makes "the deep glen" "an poll doimhin" and the village lies in a hollow between hills so that is how it got it got the name.
