    In olden times the people had not the same kind of candles as we have now a days. They were called tallow candles. The people used to make the candles themselves. They were made in the following way.
    Tallow was melted and then the people got a long stick and tied as many wicks as would fit on it. Then they dipped the stick with the wick on it down in the tallow. They were put up to dry and when they were dry they were dipped into the tallow again and this was kept on until each one was thick enough for use.
