said to the blacksmith. "I have the Devil in a bag.". "What is he like", the blacksmith asked. "A mild looking gentleman with horns". He threw the bag on the anvil.
He said, "We will bet hell out of him."
They both seized two hammers and beat hard upon the bag. After some heavy strokes, the Devil cease to cry out. They threw the bag on the floor thinking they had killed him.
After some time the bag began to move. They both looked in surprise. The Devil was peeping through the bag with one eye. The smith thrust a red poker through the Devil's eye. They then took the bag and threw it on the fire. The pedlar blew the bellows hard. After some time the bag was in flames. The Devil escaped up the chimney and was seen no more.
