  1. Long ago there lived a man named Jack Duffy. He was very fond of drink. He drank until he had all his money spent. So he prayed that the devil or God would come with money to him.
One fine day the devil came into the forge with money to him. The devil told him he would give him any money he wanted.. The man says - I have an old chair here & I would like that could get up out of it until I tell him. I have a purse here & I would like no one could take it unless I would give him leave. I have a sledge here & I would like no one could let it go until I tell him. "Very well" said the devil. The devil then told him that he would come for him in seven years. "Alright, said the man, I will go with you." At last the seven years were up & the devil came for him & asked the man to go with him.
