- A great deal of damage was done around here by the great storm of 1839.
The wind was so strong that it blew the roofs off the houses, and everything inside the houses were wet very much.
It was in the harvest time, all the hay and crops were saved and in the haggard, after the nights wind and rain all the oats and hay was scattered about everywhere, the farmers had a very hard time drying and gathering it all again.
