  1. In my native parish (Tibohine, Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon) there lived a family of blacksmiths named Moran. In those days there were no dentists in the neighbouring towns so Tom Moran made a small pincers for extracting teeth. The patient lay on his back on the floor of the forge. Four men held him while the smith knelt on him and extracted the tooth The patients groans could be heard at a considerable distance.
