  1. Meithleacha were common in our parish in my youth, usually in reaping corn or cutting hay on the land of widows who had little or no help.
    Those engaged took no payment. Some men were expert mowers. I knew one man named "Ruther"(?) (because he had a hair lip) who could mow an Irish half-acre day after day.
