  1. Weather lore
When the wind blows from the north, cold dry weather is indicated. When the stars are bright in the sky at night frost usually occurs. When the birds fly high it is said to be a sigh of good weahter and they fly low bad weather is not far off. When the dust is blowing along the road bad weather may be expected. When the cat sits with her back to the fire it is a sign of rain. When the hills appear near bad weather is indicated and when a dog eats grass it is a sure sigh of rain. When the goat comes home in the evenng and the sheep comes down the field bad weather is near. When the curlew begins to cry it is a sigh of bad weather. When the crow sits on the sheeps back it is a sign of good weather.
When there is a blue blaze in the fire it is said that a storm is near. When the cat sharpens her nails it is a sign of wind. When the cat coughs it is said that bad weather may be expected.
When the smoke goes straight out of the chimney it is a sigh of bad weather. When we have a change in the moon we often have a change in the weather.
